Luciano Zauri leaves Hamrun Spartans

Hamrun Spartans announced that coach Luciano Zauri has informed the club that it was not his intention to extend his current contract with the club.

In a statement, the Spartans said that Zauri was the club’s natural choice, and the news followed several attempts by the President Joseph Portelli to retain him as the Head Coach for the coming season 2024/2025.

Zauri had replaced Branko Nisevic last summer, leading the Spartans to the tenth championship in the history of the club and success in the BOV Super Cup last December.

A former player of Atalanta, Chievo, Lazio, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Pescara and the Italian senior, Under-21, Under-18 and Under-17 teams, Zauri started his coaching career at Pescara, leading various teams in the club’s youth sector. Zauri was appointed coach of Pescara in season 2019/20 in the Serie B but he stepped down in January 2020 when the team was lying in tenth place. Following a spell with the Bologna primavera side, he re-joined Pescara in April 2022, leading the club in the Serie C until the end of the season.
